Registration number: PRC0032450

Hi there! My name is Vuyokazi Konya. I’m a registered psychological counsellor located in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape.
I completed my Bpsych honours degree in psychology in 2016 and registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). My journey started when I worked at a Special Needs School in Port Elizabeth. The school primarily focused on children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Downs Syndrome, ADHD, ADD and other general developmental delays. At the school I also facilitated a support group for mothers and caregivers of kids with special needs.
From there, I worked for the Department of Employment & Labour, specialising in Career Counselling. I mainly helped young adults and students navigate their career paths, and assisted with skills such as CV writing, Interview skills and subject choices in schools.
I am now currently working for the Department of Health, specialising in more clinical cases, as well as psychometric assessments and psycho-education workshops within the Uitenhage Community.
Psychology, human behaviour and mental health has always been my passion, as I believe in providing a safe space where my clients are able to navigate their inner thoughts, feelings and emotions. Together we can begin the journey towards unlocking your full potential and cultivate positive change in your life.
Nelson Mandela once said “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

According to the HPCSA, a Registered Counsellor is a mental health professional that is registered under the Professional Board for Psychology, that acts as a “frontline” provider to make psychological services accessible on a community level. Registered Counsellors offer preventative and short-term, supportive counselling (e.g., trauma, trauma, career) and basic screenings, focusing on improving psychosocial well-being rather than treating deep pathology.
Additionally, Registered Counsellors differ from psychologists in that they mainly focus on short-term supportive intervention, rather than long-term care.
It is important to note that Registered Counsellors, cannot diagnose psychopathology or prescribe treatment.
